哈尔滨工业大学精密工程研究所成立于1998年,其前身为成立于1963年的机械系精加工研究室,是专职从事国防精密与超精密加工技术研究的科研单位,自1988年起开始承担多项大型工程项目。在与学校各系所共同承担航天惯性导航测试设备研究的同时,进行超精密加工理论、机床设备与刀具、超精密加工工艺、关键部件研制等相应研究。自1998年并入机电工程学院成立精密工程研究所以来,通过承担基础科研、国家基金委重点项目、863重大专项、航天系统科研项目、中国工程物理研究院惯性聚变专项、省市项目等,在超精密加工及相关研究领域取得了一系列突出成绩。除获得国家首批211工程重点建设资助学科、国家首批985重点建设资助学科、国家第一批特聘教授岗位外,近几年还成为国防科技工业超精密机械加工技术研究应用中心技术依托单位、黑龙江省超精密与特种加工重点实验室、教育部超精密加工与测量技术创新团队,并获国防科技进步奖、省部科技进步奖多项,取得学术研究领域、工程技术研究领域国内领先地位。

精密工程研究所现有25人的专职研究与工程队伍,包括教授/博导7人,副教授/副研究员/高级工程师9人,工程师及讲师7人,高级技师1人,其中14人具有博士学位,本所还另聘有15名左右高级工程师和技师。该超精密加工技术学术方向的主要科研人员还包括十余名机械制造及自动化系和航空宇航制造系的教授、副教授和具有博士学位的青年教师等。目前在所工作的国家杰出青年基金获得者2人,特聘教授1人,全国百名优秀博士论文获得者1人,教育部新世纪优秀人才1人。目前有80余名博士和硕士研究生在研究所从事相关课题研究。

     The Center for Precision Engineering (CPE) of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) is a specialist research center that focuses on precision and ultra-precision machining techniques and their applications. The CPE was founded in 1998. The CPE has been undertaking series of important projects since its foundation, such as the basic research programs, the National Science Foundation of China, the State 863 projects, scientific research program of spaceflight, and special program of Inertial Fusion from Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, etc. In addition to engineering projects, e.g. research and development of special test apparatus for space inertial navigation, the CPE also devotes itself into research fields emphasized on exploring the process and theory of ultra-precision machining, designing of ultra-precision machine tool and its key functional units, and developing diamond tools used in ultra-precision machining, etc. The CPE has become one of the first key construction disciplines of the 211 and the 985 projects launched in 1998, the first batch for Cheung Kong scholar Professor position, the technical support contractor for the application center of national defense ultra-precision mechanical machining technique, key laboratory of ultra-precision machining and non-traditional machining in Heilongjiang Province, and the Innovation team of ultra-precision machining and measurement technique, Ministry of Education. The CPE has won many prizes, such as progressive award of national defense technology, and awards from ministries and provincial governments. The CPE has been one of the leading research centers in ultra-precision machining fields for its innovation scientific research and advanced engineering techniques.
